Who isn’t looking for an energy boost these days? This can cause us to reach for things like coffee and sugar, which will inevitably cause a crash a couple of hours later. We then reach for it again, looping ourselves into an endless cycle that only wears the body down. Why not, instead, make an easy energy elixir that gives your body what it’s lacking, so it can produce the energy you need naturally?
This is a recipe I created several years ago when my daughter complained of feeling tired all the time and asked if there was something I could make. Not only did it work well for her, but it went on to become one of my most popular products.
This elixir is easy to make, so it’s great to keep on hand for those days when you need an extra boost naturally. You can lengthen its preservation time by adding more honey, or even some brandy if you prefer. It’s a tonic, so you only need a couple of tablespoons at a time.
Get Up and Go – Energy Elixir
A mineral-rich herbal blend for steady energy and emotional resilience
Dry Herb Blend (Total 50g [1.75 oz]):
- Eleuthero (Siberian ginseng): 12g (2 parts) [0.42 oz]
- Nettle: 12g (2 parts) [0.42 oz]
- Rosehips: 5g (1 part) [0.18 oz]
- Horsetail: 5g (1 part) [0.18 oz]
- Dandelion leaf: 5g (1 part) [0.18 oz]
- Yarrow: 5g (1 part) [0.18 oz]
- Raspberry leaf: 5g (1 part) [0.18 oz]
- Burdock root: 1g (½ part) [0.04 oz]
To Prepare the Elixir:
- In a large pot, add Eleuthero and burdock to 1000 ml (about 4 cups [33.8 fl oz]) of filtered water.
- Simmer gently for 20–30 minutes to extract the roots or until the liquid is reduced somewhat.
- Add more water to bring back up to original amount and add the remaining herbs.
- Continue simmering for another 10–15 minutes, then turn off the heat.
- Set the mixture aside and let steep overnight for maximum mineral extraction.
- The next day, strain the herbs with cheesecloth or any type of clean cloth or small mesh.
- Stir in 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses and 1 cup of raw honey (or more to taste and preservation) after slightly warming up the liquid.
How to Use:
Store in the fridge and take 2–4 tablespoons daily, either straight or diluted in warm water. It will keep up to six months depending on the ratio of honey to liquid. With one cup of honey, it will keep at least a month or two. Keep an eye on it. My recommendation would be to take one full course of it daily and see how your energy levels are before making more.
